Abstract

A method for automatically changing an HD(High Definition) broadcast and a broadcast receiving apparatus employing the same are provided to remove the necessity of changing to a digital broadcast by a user when one wants to view the digital broadcast while watching an analog broadcast. A controller searches an HD logo region of a analog broadcast screen image being currently broadcast from HD logo region information stored in a storage unit(S310). The controller compares the searched HD logo region with an HD logo pattern stored in the storage unit(S320). The controller checks whether the searched HD logo region is identical to the stored HD logo pattern(S330). If the searched HD logo region is identical to the stored HD logo pattern, the controller changes the current analog broadcast to an HD channel providing a digital broadcast(S340).
