Abstract

PURPOSE: A method for transmitting a short message in a portable communication terminal is provided so that a user writes the short message and conveniently inputs a telephone number of a recipient by using an abbreviated number. CONSTITUTION: If a user inputs an abbreviated number in a standby picture of a portable communication terminal and pushes a message key(S21,S22), the portable communication terminal recognizes the abbreviated number. The portable communication terminal automatically inputs a corresponding number in a receiving number field, and locates a cursor in a contents input field(S23). If the user inputs a short message and pushes a send key, the portable communication terminal transmits the inputted short message to a recipient.
