Abstract

본 발명은 프로그램 가이드 방법에 관한 것으로서 특히 사용자의 장르별 시청 빈도수에 따라 프로그램을 탐색할 수 있게 하는 방법에 관한 것이다.
본 발명에 따른 프로그램 가이드 방법은 텔레비젼 수상기의 프로그램 가이드 방법에 있어서, 사용자의 장르별 시청 빈도수를 누산하는 과정; 시청 빈도수가 많은 순서로 장르들을 정렬하는 과정; 및 프로그램 가이드 명령이 인가되면 시청 빈도수 순서로 정렬된 장르 및 시간대에 따라 시청 가능한 프로그램을 디스플레이하는 과정을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
본 발명에 따른 프로그램 가이드 방법은 사용자가 시청한 장르의 빈도수에 따라 프로그램 가이드 테이블을 구성함으로써 사용자의 선호도가 높은 장르의 프로그램들이 용이하게 선택될 수 있게 하는 효과를 갖는다.

텔레비전 수상기의 프로그램 가이드 방법{Program guide method of television receiver}
본 발명은 프로그램 가이드 방법에 관한 것으로서 특히 사용자의 장르별 시청 빈도수에 따라 프로그램을 탐색할 수 있게 하는 방법에 관한 것이다.
디지털 텔레비젼 방송의 경우 수십 ∼ 수백 개의 채널을 가질 수 있기 때문에 그에 해당하는 프로그램도 수백 가지가 될 수 있다. 따라서, 텔레비젼 수상기에서는 사용자가 시청할 수 있는 프로그램을 화면을 통하여 가이드하는 이른바 전자 프로그램 가이드(Electric Program Guide)라는 방법을 사용한다. 이러한 전자 프로그램 가이드는 방송국측에서 전송되는 프로그램 안내 정보를 검출하여 메모리에 저장하여 두고 사용자가 요구할 때 이를 화면상에 디스플레이한다. 사용자는 화면상에 장르별 시간대별로 디스플레이되는 프로그램 가이드 화면에서 원하는 프로그램을 선택하여 시청하게 된다.
그러나 사용자 입장에서는 시청하는 프로그램들의 범주가 제한적일 수 밖에 없으며 이를 위하여 원하는 프로그램을 시청하고자 할 때마다 방대한 양의 프로그램을 일일이 검색하는 것은 많은 부담이 된다.
한편, 자신이 시청하고자 하는 프로그램이 방송되는 채널 및 시간대를 기억하는 것도 어렵다.
본 발명은 상기의 문제점들을 해결하기 위하여 안출된 것으로서 사용자별로 선호하는 프로그램을 장르별로 우선적으로 검색할 수 있는 개선된 프로그램 가이드 방법을 제공하는 것을 그 목적으로 한다.
도 1은 본 발명에 따른 프로그램 가이드 방법을 도식적으로 보이기 위해 도시된 것이다.
도 2는 본 발명에 따른 프로그램 가이드 방법을 보이는 흐름도이다.
상기의 목적을 달성하는 본 발명에 따른 프로그램 가이드 방법은 사용자의 장르별 시청 빈도수를 누산하여 시청 빈도수가 많은 장르의 프로그램들이 우선적으로 디스플레이되도록 함으로써 사용자가 선호하는 장르의 프로그램을 손쉽고 빠르게 선택하게 하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
도 1은 본 발명에 따른 프로그램 가이드 방법을 도식적으로 보이기 위해 도시된 것이다. 도 1에 도시된 것은 사용자 아이콘(user icon, 102, 104)들이 표시된 텔레비젼 화면을 보이는 것이다. 도 1에 도시된 화면은 사용자가 리모트 콘트롤러 혹은 패널을 통하여 프로그램 가이드 명령을 인가하였을 때 제시되거나 디폴트(default)로 제시될 수 있다. 도 1에 있어서 각 아이콘(102 혹은 104)은 각각의 사용자를 표지하기 위한 것이다.
참조부호 106은 사용자 아이콘들 중의 하나를 선택하였을 때 보여지는 서브 메뉴를 보이는 것이다. 서브 메뉴(106)는 START, REGISGER, STOP, INFORMATION, USER EPG 등의 메뉴 항목들을 가진다.
START 메뉴 항목(106a)는 사용자의 장르별 시청 빈도수를 체크하여 사용자별 프로그램 가이드 테이블을 작성하는 프로그램(agent program)을 기동시키기 위한 것으로서 이 메뉴 항목을 선택하면 사용자가 선택한 장르의 시청 빈도수가 누산되고 시청 빈도수에 따라 각 사용자별 프로그램 가이드 화면(이하 uEPG라 함)를 작성하기 위한 테이블의 내용이 갱신된다.
REGISTER 메뉴 항목(106b)은 사용자가 직접 장르를 등록하기 위한 것으로서 이 메뉴 항목을 선택하여 사용자가 선호하는 장르를 등록할 수 있다.
STOP 메뉴 항목(106c)는 agent program을 중지시키기 위한 것으로서 이 메뉴 항목을 선택하면 해당 사용자에 대한 장르별 시청 빈도수 체크가 중지된다.
INFORMATION 메뉴 항목(106d)는 사용자 정보를 디스플레이하기 위한 것으로서 이 메뉴 항목이 선택되면 유료 채널의 사용 시간 및 사용료, 쇼핑 내용등이 표시된다.
uEPG 메뉴 항목(106e)는 각 사용자별 프로그램 가이드 화면을 디스플레이하기 위한 것으로서 이 메뉴 항목이 선택되면 도 1에 도시된 바와 같은 uEPG (108)이 디스플레이된다.
uEPG(108)는 장르 및 시간대별로 시청 가능한 프로그램들을 안내하는 화면이다. 도 1에 도시된 바에 의하면 횡축으로는 장르가 나열되고, 종축으로는 시간대가 나열된다. 각 프로그램은 해당 장르 및 시간대 별로 나열된다.
횡축상에 나열된 장르들 중에서 처음에 나열된 '스포츠'와 '드라마' 장르들은 사용자가 REGISTER 메뉴 항목(106b)를 통하여 지정한 장르들이고, 다음에 나열된 '뉴스'는 가장 높은 시청 빈도수를 가지는 장르이다. 도 1에 도시된 것은 사용자가 장르들 중에서 '스포츠' 장르를 선택하였을 때 보여지는 예이다.
즉, 본 발명에 따른 프로그램 가이드 방법은 사용자가 시청한 장르들을 시청 빈도수에 따라 분류하고 가장 높은 빈도수를 가지는 장르를 uEPG의 가장 앞쪽에 배치함으로서 사용자의 선호도가 높은 장르가 쉽게 눈에 띄게 한다.
도 2는 본 발명에 따른 프로그램 가이드 방법을 보이는 흐름도이다.
도 2에 도시된 방법은 시청 빈도수 누산 과정(S202), 장르 정렬 과정(S204), 프로그램 가이드 디스플레이 과정(S206)를 포함한다.
시청 빈도수 누산 과정(S202)은 사용자가 시청한 프로그램의 장르를 누산하는 과정으로서 사용자가 지정되고 프로그램이 시청될 때마다 agent program의 동작에 의해 해당 장르의 누산치가 증가한다.
장르 정렬 과정(S204)은 장르들의 누산치를 비교하여 가장 높은 누산치를 가지는 순서대로 장르들을 정렬한다. 이 과정에서 시청 빈도수가 가장 높은 장르 즉 사용자의 선호도가 가장 높은 장르가 가장 높은 순위를 가지게 된다.
이 장르의 순서는 인위적으로 바뀔 수 있다. 즉, 도 1의 REGISTER 메뉴 항목(106b)을 통하여 사용자가 등록한 장르들은 시청 빈도수에 상관없이 언제나 가장 높은 우선 순위를 갖게 된다.
프로그램 가이드 디스플레이 과정(S206)는 각 방송국들로부터 전송된 프로그램 가이드 정보를 디스플레이하며, 장르 정렬 과정(S204)에서 결정된 장르별 우선 순위 및 시간대별로 시청가능한 프로그램들을 디스플레이한다.
프로그램 가이드 디스플레이 과정(S206)에서 디스플레이되는 결과가 도 1에 도시되어 있다. 도 1에 도시된 바를 참조하면 사용자가 지정한 '스포츠'와 '드라마' 장르들이 최좌측 행에 나열되고, 다음으로 시청 빈도수가 가장 높은 '뉴스' 장르가 나열된다.
각 열에는 시간대별로 시청 가능한 프로그램들이 나열된다. 사용자는 가장 선호하는 장르의 순서대로 프로그램이 나열되기 때문에 자신의 취향에 알맞는 프로그램을 손쉽게 탐색할 수 있다.
상술한 바와 같이, 본 발명에 따른 프로그램 가이드 방법은 사용자가 시청한 장르의 빈도수에 따라 프로그램 가이드 테이블을 구성함으로써 사용자의 선호도가 높은 장르의 프로그램들이 용이하게 선택될 수 있게 하는 효과를 갖는다.

Claims (4)

  1. 텔레비젼 수상기의 프로그램 가이드 방법에 있어서,
    사용자의 장르별 시청 빈도수를 누산하는 과정;
    시청 빈도수가 많은 순서로 장르들을 정렬하는 과정; 및
    프로그램 가이드 명령이 인가되면 시청 빈도수 순서로 정렬된 장르 및 시간대에 따라 시청 가능한 프로그램을 디스플레이하는 과정을 포함하는 프로그램 가이드 방법.
  2. 제1항에 있어서,
    사용자에 의해 장르를 선정하는 과정을 더 구비하고,
    상기 디스플레이 과정은 사용자에 의해 선택된 장르를 포함하여 디스플레이하는 것을 특징으로 하는 프로그램 가이드 방법.
  3. 제2항에 있어서, 상기 사용자에 의해 선택된 장르는 사용 빈도수 순서에 의해 정렬된 장르들 보다 우선 순위를 가지는 것을 특징으로 하는 프로그램 가이드 방법.
  4. 제1항의 과정들을 사용자별로 수행하는 것을 특징으로 하는 프로그램 가이드 방법.
