Abstract

PURPOSE: A method for retrieving a name in a portable terminal is provided to easily search a corresponding name by retrieving the name using only primary consonant of each character inputted from a user. CONSTITUTION: If a use mode selected by a user is a name retrieval mode(S1), a terminal receives the first consonant of the first character of a corresponding name inputted by the user(S2). The terminal judges whether the user selects the first mode(S3). If the user selects the first mode, the terminal retrieves names stored in a name list(S4) and displays names started as the received first consonant and human items associated with the names on a screen(S5). If the user does not select the first mode, the terminal receives the second consonant inputted by the user(S6). The terminal judges whether the user selects the second mode(S7). If the user selects the second mode, the terminal retrieves the stored name list(S4) and displays names composed as the first consonant of the first character and the first consonant of the second character inputted by the user and human items associated with the names on the screen(S5). If the user does not selects the second mode, the terminal receives the first consonant of the third character inputted by the user(S8). The terminal judges whether the user selects the third mode(S9).
