Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain packet communication with excellent throughput even in a system with a large delay time by calculating information controlling flow from the result of comparison of number of reception buffers in use with a low/high threshold value at the reception side and sending the result to the sender side. CONSTITUTION:Number buf of reception buffers in use is set initially zero at the receiver side and incremented by 1 in receiving a data from the line and decremented by 1 in case of extraction. In the timing when the data is extracted, reply information RR (i, j) representing reception enable is sent to the sender depending on the value of buf, where (i) indicated the correct reception till a sequence number (i-l) and (j) indicates the transmission enable of a data having a number up to maximum outstanding number (k+j-l). When the data is read and the number buf is decremented, the buf is compared with high/low threshold values n, 0 of the buffer and in case of buf>=n, (j) is not updated and in case of 0<buf<n, then the relation of j=j+1 is obtained and in case of buf=0, the relation of j=j+2 is obtained. The reception enable reply information attended with the value (j) is sent. The value (i) is revised by a conventional method.
