Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a sensor making it possible to measure a current with high sensitivity and in a non-contact manner and having high reliability, by a method wherein ferromagnetic pieces of high permeability are disposed in close vicinity to a Hall element and a magnetic flux density is thereby condensed and impressed on the Hall element. CONSTITUTION:A conductor 11 through which a current to be measured flows is passed through an annular ferromagnetic core 21 having a gap 22. The ferromagnetic core 21 is formed of a ferrite ring, and a thin-film-type InAs Hall element 23 sealed with resin 28 is inserted into the gap 22. The Hall element 23 has a sandwich structure wherein ferrite pieces 24A and 24B of high permeability are so disposed as to hold therebetween a magnetism-sensitive member 25 formed of an InAs thin film and a shield layer 30 formed of an Al2O3 thin film, and it is sealed monolithcally with the resin 28. The Hall element 23 is fixed to the core 21 by an adhesive 26. A sensor having such a construction as the above amplified magnetically the density of a magnetic flux impressed on the Hall element 23 to be two to five times higher, for instance, and thereby enables the multiplication of an output voltage of the Hall element 23.
