Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure a wide-range temperature distribution with high accuracy, by separating and measuring Raman backward scattered light generated in an optical fiber by using a reflecting dichroic mirror and a separating dichroic mirror. CONSTITUTION:A separating dichroic mirror 3 and a separating dichroic mirror 4 are arranged between the light source 1 of the temperature measuring instrument and an optical fiber sensor part 2. Pulse light emitted by the laser 1a of a light source enters only the sensor part 2 and the majority of the light travels to the sensor part 2, but part of it returns to the incidence side by Raman effect. This light is split by the reflecting dichroic mirror 3 into the Raman backward scattered light and Rayleigh backward scattered light, the Raman backward scattered light is split by the separating dichroic mirror 4 into Stokes' light and anti-Stockes' light, which are made incident on detection systems 5 and 6, thereby accurately calculating the temperature of the sensor part 2 from their intensity ratio.
