Abstract
PURPOSE:To form a good image even on a receiving paper of low smoothness, by determining the critical surface tension of a hot melt substance to be firstly applied to be not more than that of a hot melt color ink content. CONSTITUTION:A first thermal transfer sheet 1 is provided with a layer W made of a coating agent containing a hot melt substance imparting a smoothness to a receiving paper 4 on a substrate 1a. A second thermal transfer sheet 2 is provided with a layer 2b containing a hot melt color ink content on a substrate 2a. The critical surface tension of the hot melt substance in the first thermal transfer sheet 1 is made not more than that of the hot melt color ink content in the second transfer sheet 2. A thermal transfer recording is carried out by a method in which the first thermal transfer sheet 1 is laid over the receiving paper 4, thereon the solid image W of the coating agent is thermally transferred by a thermal head 6, etc., thereon the second thermal transfer sheet 2 is laid over, the color ink is similarly thermally transferred by the thermal head etc., and an image is formed.
