Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily prepare a guide wire at low cost, to make the diameter thereof fine, to simplify the insert operation thereof and to enhance reliability, by forming the guide wire into a non-coil shape from a shape memory alloy. CONSTITUTION:A guide wire 23 for inserting a catheter is composed of a linear fine shape memory alloy. That is, the shape memory alloy constituting the guide wire 23 is based on titanium and nickel, and the transformation point (Af point) thereof is 37 deg.C or less, in other words, usual bodily temp. or less and said wire is composed of a single wire having a diameter of 0.05-2.0mmphi. This shape memory alloy is subjected to shape memory treatment so that the leading end part 23a of the wire 23 is deformed into a J-shape at the transformation point and, therefore, when the wire is inserted in the body, said wire is made linear before insertion and easy to insert through a needle 1 and deformed into a memory shape (J-shape) after inserted in a blood vessel to make it possible to smoothly guide a catheter to a predetermined position without damaging a blood vessel.
