Abstract

PURPOSE:To miniaturize an image transmitter by providing a tree search vector quantizing part to output, when the updatings of a code book address signal are completed for the number of prescribed times, the code book address signal at such a time as quantizing information. CONSTITUTION:An image input signal 100 is converted to a vector signal 101 by a blocking part 1. A reproducing signal 102 of the same position block as a present input block and the signal 101 are outputted from a frame memory 2 to a subtracter 3, and a difference vector signal 103 is outputted to an invalidity/validity discriminating circuit 4. In case of invalidity, only invalidity information is encoded and sent to an encoding part 5, and in case of validity, validity information is sent to the encoding part 5, and simultaneously, the signal 103 is outputted to a tree search vector quantizing part 6. The quantizing part 6 repeats the tree search of several stages, a vector most similar to the signal 103 is selected from a last stage vector group, and quantizing information 106 is outputted by the encoding part 5. Invalidity/validity information 104 and the information 106 are multiplexed, outputted to a transmitting buffer 7 and, simultaneously, outputted to a local decoding part 9.
