Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve measurement sensitivity by coating a conductive base body, except a part thereof, with an oxygen reduction catalyst layer, coating the remaining electrode part with an enzyme layer and measuring the oxygen concn. consumed by the enzyme reaction by oxygen reduction current. CONSTITUTION:The conductive base body 1 is formed by adhering a lead wire 3 by means of a conductive adhesive agent 2 to the terminal of, for example, a carbon fiber CF and insulating the circumference with an epoxy adhesive agent 4 and a 'Teflon(R)' tube 5 to constitute the CF electrode in such a manner that only the section of the CF 1 serves as an electrode surface. The material for the base body 1 is selected from graphite or metals such as platinum and gold in addition to CF. A 3-electrode cell is used for the CF electrode and an electrolytically polymerized film 6 of, for example, cobalt/porphyrin is deposited thereon. The polymer film consisting of a cobalt/phthalocyanine complex or cobalt/porphyrin complex, etc., is selected for the film 6 to form the oxygen reduction catalyst layer having an oxygen reduction function. An enzyme film 7, for example, glucose oxidase film is then deposited by using the 3-electrode cell to prepare a glucose sensor 10. The high measurement sensitivity is thus obtd.
