Abstract

PURPOSE:To longitudinally uniformly compress a protection cover nipped between chucks, by a method wherein a compression coil spring is situated between a plurality of linearly slidable chucks to support the coil spring at an equal distance, and the one end is secured and the other end is compressed. CONSTITUTION:A flexible tube 16 to which a protection cover 17 is mounted is inserted in a pin 15 for support, and the protection cover 17 is simultaneously nipped by means of a plurality of chucks 6, 7, and 8. An air cylinder 11 is then driven, and with a rod 10 retracted, the uppermost chuck 6 is lowered by a distance of pull-in effected by the air cylinder 11. In linkage with the motion, the chucks 7 and 8 are moved to a position, where a distance between the uppermost chuck 6 in a lowering state and a base 14 is always uniformly interior-divided, through the action of a compression coil spring, and the protection cover 17 can be contracted over the entire longitudinal direction.
