Abstract
PURPOSE: To perform matching without overlooking even a difference of a small section in a pattern with a small calculation quantity without causing unnecessary local variation sectioning each pattern by identical feature sections by finding optimum correspondence of each section, and performing linear matching the optimum corresponding section. CONSTITUTION: A sectioning circuit 1 sections an input pattern 7 and a section mean feature vector calculating circuit 2 finds the section mean feature vector 9 of a sectioned input pattern 8. A distance calculating circuit 4 finds the distance between each section mean feature vector 10 of a reference pattern stored in a storage circuit 3 and each section mean feature vector 9 of the input pattern 7. Then a linear matching circuit 6 performs linear matching between the sectioned reference pattern 13 stored in the storage device 3 and the sectioned input pattern 8 from the sectioning circuit l as to each corresponding section. Consequently, the total distance 14 between the reference pattern and input pattern 7, i.e., their similarity can be obtained.
