Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve performances (false alarm rate, resolution) demanded in accordance with the kind of a target to be watched, by a method wherein the kind of the target is identified, a constant false alarm rate (CFAR) type is selected automatically and a CFAR processing is applied for output. CONSTITUTION:A target identifier 11 identifies the kind of a target from an output of a video integrator 8, i.e. a difference in relative speed or the intensity of a received signal, and delivers data to a CFAR type selector 12. The CFAR type selector 12 selects a CFAR type being optimum for attaining performances (false alarm rate, resolution) necessary for detecting the target and controls a CFAR detector 9 so that it executes a processing according to said CFAR type. Concretely, it executes the processing according to the greatest of CFAR when a low false alarm rate is required, while executing the processing according to cell-averaging CFAR when a resolution is required. By this method, the execution of an optimum signal processing is enabled in the case of an missile, for instance, which does not require a very high revolution, but requires a strong performance in respect to a false alarm in particular, and also in the case of an airplane which requires the resolution although allowing some false alarm rate to be present.
