Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain the reproduction of an excellent image by dividing a read area of a solid-state image sensor into N equally and reading a signal from one split read area in a time shorter than 1/N of the one field period and stopping the readout of the signal at the head changeover period. CONSTITUTION:The read area of the solid-state image sensor 14 is divided equally into N and a signal is read from one split read area in a shorter time than the 1/N of the one field period while the head scans a video tape to apply read control of the solid-state image sensor 14 thereby stopping the signal readout in the head changeover period at least. That is, a signal sent from the solid-state image sensor 14 is compressed more than the real time and the compressed signal is recorded on the video tape and the signal reproduced from the video tape is A-D converted once and the result is stored in a memory thereby adjusting the readout time and expanding the time into the real time. Thus, the image is reproduced with excellent quality.
