Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a colored aramid yarn containing a pigment uniformly distributed in the whole yarn and free from a large particle and an agglomerate, having a high strength and a high modulus by spinning a solution comprising concentrated sulfuric acid, a specific aramid polymer and an organic sulfuric acid-soluble pigment. CONSTITUTION: (A) sulfuric acid having >=98% concentration is mixed with (B) >=18 wt.% of a p-aramid polymer having >=4.0 intrinsic viscosity and (C) 0.01-6 wt.%, based on the component B, of a sulfuric acid-soluble organic pigment, stirred and heated to 80-105 deg.C while further continuing stirring to form a uniform solution. Then, the solution is extruded from a spinneret to a noncoagulating fluid layer having 0.5-2.5 cm thickness and extended to 3-10 times the original length in the layer. Then, the extended solution is conducted to an aqueous coagulating bath at -5 to 25 deg.C to form a filament, which is further washed with water and/or a diluted aqueous alkali to give the objective aramid yarn.
