Abstract

PURPOSE:To record a main picture and a sub picture at the reception side onto recording paper without missing by reducing at least one of main and sub pictures at a prescribed reduction rate in sending the main picture and the sub picture. CONSTITUTION:A microcomputer 21 compares the length of an obtained transmission original with the length of recording paper at the reception side represented by a DIS signal representing the reception capability. Then when the length of the transmission original exceeds the length of the recording paper, the microcomputer 21 obtains the reduction rate in the sub scanning direction of the transmission original required to record the sub picture of a character string and the main picture corresponding to the picture data onto recording paper without missing and gives a command of the reduction rate to a reduction circuit 30. Thus, in sending the main picture corresponding to the picture data stored in an auxiliary storage device 6 and the sub picture corresponding to the character string inserted to the head of the main picture, the main picture and the sub picture are reduced in the sub scanning direction at a prescribed reduction rate. Thus, the reduced main picture and sub picture are recorded without missing on the recording paper of the reception side.
