The dot matrix display type liquid crystal display device used in this liquid crystal television is constructed as shown in FIG. That is, the liquid crystal cell 1 is formed by sealing a liquid crystal material 5 between a pair of electrode substrates 2 and 3 and a sealing part 4 which are arranged opposite to each other, and a polarizing plate 6 is disposed below the liquid crystal cell 1. In addition, a parting plate 7 in which a display window 7a for defining the display area of the liquid crystal cell 1 is opened is disposed on the upper surface of the liquid crystal cell 1, and connection terminals at the peripheral edge of the liquid crystal cell 1 are connected to the parting plate 7. covered by. In addition,
A connection terminal portion of the liquid crystal cell 1 is electrically connected to a circuit board 9 via an interconnector 8.

FIG. 3 shows a state in which a plurality of pixels are arranged in a matrix as in FIG. 2, and the entire arrangement is in the form of a horizontally long rectangle. Of each pixel, the pixels 10a and 10b arranged at the outer peripheral edge are formed larger than the other pixels 10c. That is, among the pixels 10a and 10b arranged on the outer periphery, the pixel 10a
The pixels 10b are arranged at the four corners, and the pixels 10b are arranged at the outer peripheral edge other than the four corners.
The pixel 10a is a pixel 1 formed in a square.
The pixel 10b is formed into a square having a size approximately four times that of the pixel 0c, and the pixel 10b is formed into a rectangle having a size approximately twice that of the pixel 10c.

In this case, the row electrodes of the first row and the last row are formed wider than the other row electrodes. Also,
A plurality of column electrodes 12A, 12B, 12C, . . . formed in a flat plate shape are arranged in the vertical direction of the display surface. In this case, each column electrode is divided into a plurality of parts, and the opposing row electrodes are divided into two parts. Among the column electrodes, the first and last column electrodes are formed wider than the other column electrodes, and are arranged at the top and bottom sides of the respective divided electrodes in each column. The divided electrodes are formed longer than the other divided electrodes in that row. Row electrodes 11A, 11B formed and arranged in this way...
Each pixel 10a to 10c is formed at a portion where the column electrodes 12A, 12B, . . . overlap with each other. Also, the left end portions (hatched portions) of the row electrodes 11A, 11B...
The upper end portions (hatched portions) of the column electrodes 12A, 12B... indicate connection terminals, and the row electrodes 11A, 11
A scanning signal is supplied to the connection terminal of B..., and
A display signal is supplied to the connection terminals of the column electrodes 12A and 12B. Of the respective divided electrodes in each column, the odd-numbered divided electrodes counted from the upper end side are commonly connected to the lead wire l1 , and the even-numbered divided electrodes are commonly connected to the lead wire l2 .

Since the pixels 0a and 10b are formed larger than the other pixels 10c, when the liquid crystal cell is installed in the device case, as shown in FIG. On the other hand, even if the setting position of the liquid crystal cell is shifted, the area where the pixels of the liquid crystal cell are arranged is the display area C.
There is no blank area (non-display area) within the display area.
