Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a recording medium to be easily set up by detecting format infor mation, position, and direction of a recording medium, by detecting marks on a record ing medium provided by arranging a plurality of marks vertically at a position a fixed distance from a side end part of the recording medium on which a plurality of photodetectors are arranged laterally in line. CONSTITUTION:When a mark 3a at a top of a bar code 3 is detected with a line sensor 10, a bit positioned at its center is stored as information of the bar code 3 at a position of this paper feed by a format information output means. When a record ing paper is sent by a very small amount with the paper feed means and a read station reaches a mark 3b, the recording paper 1 is stopped to be conveyed by the paper feed means. Positions of the mark 3a and the mark 3b are compared to know their difference in position by a control means. When a difference of the positions is within a specific distance, a printing position is transferred to the top of an initial rule 2 on the recording paper. Then, one line statement of an inputted document is printed. This printing is carried out on the basis of information of a width of the rule outputted by the format information output means and a suitable character pitch is selected. This action is carried out until a printing of one page of the document is judged to be completed.

Conventional Technology When attempting to print on paper in a predetermined format, such as a document with pre-lined lines, using a printing device such as a word processor or typewriter, conventionally the user has to check the lines that have been printed on the paper in advance. After measuring the spacing and width of the paper using a ruler, etc., and setting the line spacing and character pitch accordingly, printing was performed.

Also, even if you set the printing device according to the paper, it is necessary to align the print position with the first ruled line, and at this time, the paper may become loose, misalignment may occur depending on the viewing position, or the paper may be set diagonally. In this case, there is a problem in that printing fails and more time is spent setting the paper.

In step (a), the paper feeding means 12 rotates the platen 6 and starts transporting the recording paper 1. Next, when the line sensor 10 detects the upper end of the recording paper 1 in step (a), the format information output means 11 becomes ready to read data in step (t). When the line sensor 10 detects the mark 3a at the tip of the barcode 3 in step (1), the output of the line sensor 10 shown in FIG. 8(a) is stored in the mark position data storage means 14 in step (e). Further, the format information output means 11 stores the bit located at the center of the data of the mark 3a outputted by the line sensor 10 as information of the barcode 3 at this paper feeding position. Next, in step (force), the paper feeding means 12 feeds the recording paper by a small amount, and in step (k), it is determined whether or not it has reached the last mark 3b of the barcode 3. If it has not reached the end, step ( (e) reads the data of barcode 3 on the next line. When the reading reaches the mark 3b, the paper feeding means 12 moves the recording paper 1 in step (ri).
Stop transporting.

Next, in step (k), the position data of the mark 3a stored in the mark position data storage means 14 and the data shown in FIG.
Compare the position data with the mark 3b shown in FIG. This comparison is performed by comparing the number of bits of data indicating the tip of the mark among the respective position data.

In step (c), the control means 15 compares the difference in position between the mark 3a and the mark 3b. If the difference in position exceeds a certain amount, it is determined that the recording paper 1 is set diagonally, and in step (S) outputs data to the display board 5 requesting resetting of the recording paper. Further, if the difference in position is within a certain amount, the control means 15 drives the paper feeding means 12, the printing means 13, etc. in accordance with the format information outputted by the format information output means 11 in step (c) to print. Move the position to the tip of the first ruled line 2 on the recording paper.

Next, in step (S), the control means 15 prints one line of the document input by the user. This printing is performed based on the information on the width of the ruled line output by the format information output means 11, and appropriate character bits are selected. Even if you select the narrowest character pitch here, if one line of character string in the document does not fit in one line of recording paper 1, format information output means 1
Line feed is performed by the line feed width output by 1, and printing is performed in two separate lines. Next, use Step (C) to write one line, and then step (S).
to print the next line. This operation is continued until it is determined in step (S) that printing of one page of the document has been completed, and then, in step (R), the paper feeding means 12 discharges the recording paper 1.

In this embodiment, the barcode 3 includes four data: data indicating the position of the tip of the first ruled line 2 with respect to the mark 3b, data indicating the pitch between ruled lines, data indicating the number of lines, and data indicating the width of the ruled line. However, it is also easily possible to configure this to show data of the actual printing start point relative to the tip of the ruled line as another data.
In this case, even more flexible format settings are possible.
