Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform even emission over all surfaces by providing discharge space that tightly encloses rare gas between two glass plates and then providing conductive face electrodes opposed to the discharge space on respective outer surfaces of both glass plates. CONSTITUTION:A film-type face electrode 5 on which transparent metal oxide such as tin oxide is baked is provided on the outer surface of a front glass plate 1 comprised with rectangular transparent plate glass. In addition, a transparent or opaque conductive surface electrode 6 is provided on the outer surface of a rear glass plate 2 comprised with the same material. Furthermore, a face-type discharge illuminant is formed by overlapping both glass plates 1 and 2, sealing all circumferential sections, and tightly enclosing rare gas such as neon, argon, or mercury vapor, etc. in discharge space 3 formed between them. As a result, by applying high frequency voltage between face electrodes 5 and 6, the rare gas in the discharge space 3 is excited and emits light and even emission can be obtained over all surfaces.

Conventionally, discharge light emitters for the above-mentioned uses have been produced by evacuation from a glass bulb or glass tube, which is then filled with a dilute gas such as neon, argon, mercury vapor, or a mixture of these. Or, most of them have electrodes attached to a glass tube, and in addition, a fluorescent substance is coated on the inner circumferential surface of a glass bulb or glass tube, and to some extent, the glass tube is bent into an annular shape. However, in recent years, soft surface illumination has been desired for interior lighting of buildings, etc., so the straight or linear discharge light emitters using the glass bulbs and tubes described above are not suitable for the outside of the light emitters. In many cases, a light diffusing plate made of plastic or the like is installed, and the development of a planar discharge luminous material is desired.6 □Then, as a planar discharge luminous material,
As shown in Publication No. 95, the mating surface of two glass plates has a large number of parallel independent fine discharge grooves, and a pair of grooves connected to both ends of these grooves and perpendicular to the fine discharge grooves. A discharge space with concentrated discharge grooves is provided, and electrodes such as rod electrodes are provided diagonally to the concentrated discharge grooves. The electrodes are placed facing each other in one position as far apart as possible in the discharge space, but the discharge occurs by connecting the electrodes at the shortest distance, making it difficult to reach the entire discharge space, making it difficult to obtain stable light emission. There was a problem.

As described above, this invention has a discharge space formed inside two glass plates sealed around the entire circumference, and a pair of 4 holes and 8 holes. -12-Eh. -By providing one-sided electrode,
When a voltage is applied between these electrodes, the distance between the electrodes is equal and short at any position in the discharge space, so a uniform and stable discharge can occur throughout the discharge space. It is possible to emit light evenly over the entire surface of the glass plate, and the structure is simple because there is no need to form fine discharge grooves on the glass plate.
