Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform a diagnosis of a trouble, by a method wherein an attenuating oscillation, generated after a pulse is excited, is fetched from a connection of an ultrasonic transmitter and receiver and an ultrasonic pulse generating circuit, and an output of a receiver is checked through the addition of the attenuating oscillation to the connection of the ultrasonic receiver and a reception circuit. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic transmitter and receiver 2 is driven by means of a carrier pulse from a signal generator (SG) 1. With a gate 7 closed by a signal from a self-checking signal generator (SCS) 8 and a trouble detecting gate signal (FDS) from the SG1, a switch is closed, and an attenuation oscillation, generated after a pulse, is added to a connection of an echo sound receiver 4 and a reception circuit 5. The attenuation oscillation is amplified and detected by the reception circuit 5 and is inputted to a comparator 6, and if an input exceeds a threshold, a pulse is generated. The pulse is added to AND gates 10 and 11, and the signal from the SCS 8 is added directly or togetherwith a reversed signal and the FDS. The outputs of the AND circuits 10 and are added to an indication circuit 13 via an OR circuit 12. This permits the detection of a trouble by means of the signal state of the indication circuit 13.
