Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance a thermal efficiency and reduce the amount of a fuel consumed, by a method wherein a part of a high-temperature gas discharged from a catalyst bed is returned into a heating chamber.
CONSTITUTION: After a solvent-containing gas is treated by a pretreatment filter 1 to remove dusts, mists, tar and the like from the gas, it is preheated by bringing into heat exchange with a high-temperature gas from the catalyst bed 5 in a heat exchanger 3. The gas thus preheated is further heated by a burner 8 in a heating chamber, and is fed into the catalyst bed 5, where it is clarified through decomposition. Part of the exhaust gas discharged from the catalyst bed 5 at a high temperature due to the combustion of solvent components under a catalytic action is fed into the heating chamber 4 through a damper 12 provided in an exhaust-gas passage 10 for the heating chamber 4, and it heats the solvent- containing gas directly. The remainder of the exhaust gas is fed into the heat exchanger 3 through an exhaust-gas passage 9 for the heat exchanger 9, and it preheats the solvent-containing gas.
