Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate metallic As economically by a method wherein As ions are reduced to metallic As by stirring with Cu amalgam, Pb amalgam or the like in the presence of Cl ions in a specified temperature renge within a tank which is sealed off against entrance of air, and then solid-liquid separation is carried out.
CONSTITUTION: The aqueous acidic solution containing As ions is contained in a tank, the concentration of Cl ions in the solution is increased by adding NaCl or the like, the liquid temperature is set to be 50W100°C (particularly, 85W95°C) and the tank is sealed against the entrance of air. Then, while constantly stirring the content of the tank, an amalgam of Cu, Pb or Cd or metallic Cu or metallic Cd is added to the solution, thereby reducing the As ions into the form of precipitating metallic As or As amalgam. The metallic As or the As amalgam thus formed is separated by a solid-liquid separation process.
