Abstract
PURPOSE:To realize a highly efficient sorting of character subjects, by sorting the character patterns based on the degree of directional contribution of the length of the black dot row obtained with every direction from all black picture elements of the character pattern. CONSTITUTION:For the character pattern obtained by a photoelectric conversion or the like, the antennas are extended in eight directions decided previously from at least all black picture elements 8-1-8-3 of a character pattern 7 that received a binary coding, a normalization of position and size, a character framing process and a smoothing. Then the number of consecutive black dots obtained in each direction is calculated to obtain the degree of directional contribution of the black dots. Based on the value of the contribution, the features showing the distribution of length and direction are extracted for each character line of the character pattern to produce a feature table to sort the character patterns. A matching is obtained between the feature table and the feature dictionary table of each character that is already stored. In such way, the character patterns are sorted.
