Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formulaI(R is alkyl of 2 or more carbon atoms).
EXAMPLE: Ethyl-β-L-rhamnopyroside.
USE: It is used as a medicine, because of its antiallergic and carcinostatic activities. It shows no side-effects which are observed in general immunosuppressives such as suppression of immunogloblins including Ig G or Ig M.
PREPARATION: The reaction between L-rhamnose of formula II and an alkyl alcohol of formula III (ethanol, propanol, isopropanol) is conducted in the presence of an acid such as sulfuric or hydrochloric, formic or acetic acid at room temperature or, when necessary, under heating to give the compound of formulaI.
