Abstract
PURPOSE: To aim at reducing the cost of a vehicle braking unit and putting the latter to practical use, which unit is of such a type that braking is automatically made by the result of the comparison of a distance to and a relative speed to another vehicle running ahead with reference values, the distance and the relative speed being detected by a radar or the like, by obtaining brake driving power from an exsisting hydraulic unit.
CONSTITUTION: An automatic braking unit comprises a system a for detecting a distance to and a relative speed to another vehicle running ahead, an exsisting power steering system B installed on a vehicle, a brake control means C including a switching valve 20 and a normally used, hydraulic brake controlling device D. The system A is a FM-CW radar whith produces a signal (e) or (f) respectively indicating necessities of braking in a small degree or in a large degree. The means C is so constructed that, when the signal (e) is produced, a solenoid 31 is actuated, and pressure from a pump 10 is supplied to an actuator 60, due to the upward movement of a spool in a switching valve 32, through a circuit line 12, a passage 29 and a circuit line 62a for transiently braking in a small degree, while, when the signal (f) is produced, another solenoid 41 is also energized for braking in a large degree.
