Abstract
PURPOSE: To remove a slight amount of arsenic existing in a hydrocarbon, in high arsenic removing capacity, economically in view of the apparatus and operation cost, by the reactive adsorption and oxidative treatment of the arsenic compound in the hydrocarbon using a oxidative catalyst in vapor phase.
CONSTITUTION: For example, the arsenic compound contained in a hydrocarbon such as LPG (3C and 4C fraction, esp, 3C LPG by-produced by the reforming of gasolin with a fluidized bed catalytic cracking apparatus, is brought into contact with an oxidative catalyst, esp. manganese oxide, copper oxide or their mixture, in vapor pahse to effect the reactive adsorption and oxidation treatment. The slight amount of the arsenic compound, esp. arsines (e.g. AsH3, CH3ASH2, etc.) in the hydrocarbon can be removed by this process. The process does not necessitate the pretreatment other than the vaporization of the hydrocarbon, has an arsenic removal ratio of as high as ≥95%, can treat a large amount of gas with a small amount of the catalyst, and can remove only the arsenic compound without causing the side reaction such as polymerization.
