Abstract

PURPOSE:To find accurate azimuth by finding maximum and minimum detection values obtained by horizontally rotating two terrestrial magnetisum detectors crossing at right angles to each other on the same surface to operate corrected outputs. CONSTITUTION:an azimuth detector 10 built in one of two terrestrial magnetism detectors crossing at right angles to each other on the same surface is rotated horizontally at least once and the output from the detector 10 is applied to a maximum/ minimum output detector 11 and an arithmetic device 12. The output detector 11 finds the maximum value Xmax and the minimum value Xmin during the period commanded by a control device 13 and stores these values in a storage device 14. The arithmetic device 12 executes X'=2AX/(Xmax-Xmin) (where, A is standard gain) by inputting the output X of the azimuth detector 10 to find a corrected output X'. The control device 13 controls the operation of each device and updates data in every specifed period. In the other terrestrial magnetisum detector crossing at right angles with the former detector, corrected output Y'=2AY/(Ymax-Ymin) is found in the same manner. Thus, the influences of magnetic substances arranged cloely are erased, obtaining accurate azimuth from these corrected outputs X' and Y'.
