Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible the sterilization of an adsorbent for high mol.wt. protein possible and improve the adsorptive performance of conjugated protein, etc. by using a porous body having pore sizs of a specific range for said adsorbent.
CONSTITUTION: Borosilicate glass is subjected to heat treatment, phase separation, acid treatment, etc., whereby a porous body of porous glass or the like of ≥0.5cc/ g pore volume, and 1,000W3,000Å average pore sizes is made. Negative electric charge is applied on the surface of this porous body. Or the surface of the porous body is coated with a hydrophilic polymer. This porous body is formed of porous glass, porous silica, porous alumina, porous ceramic or the like. The adsorbent consisting of such porous body adsorbs and removes protein such as complement, fibrinogen, microfibrin, antigen-antibody complex, etc., or complex with sugar or nucleic acid in blood, blood clot, or body fluid at high rates of adsorption.
