PURPOSE:To obtain a color picture where the color breakup of the chrominance signal does not occur, by obtaining a signal where two picture elements are averaged in the vertical direction in respect to picture elements of image pickup elements which have colors separated by red and blue filters. CONSTITUTION:A CCD picture element 505R, CCD picture elements 506G-1 and 507G-2, and a CCD picture element 505B are used for red, green, and blue respectively. As shown in the figure, green filters are provided to cover two picture elements 506G-1 and 507-2 in the vertical direction, and red and blue filters are provided to cover one picture elements 505R and 505B in the vertical direction respectively. When the CCD of this constitution is used to pick up an image and the output passes through a signal separating circuit, scanning lines 1 and 1' are not different in fields, and color breakup does not occur. Further, independent green signals are obtained in scanning lines 1 and 1', and resolution is not lowered.
