PURPOSE: To realize the installation of a detector that detects the focusing shift and the tracking shift within a plane that crosses the same area on the optical axis, by using a cylindrical lens in a combination of a Foucault system and a far-field system.
CONSTITUTION: The parallel light flux 20 reflected from a disk is cut to about half by a wedge-type light shielder 21 and made incident to a 4-split photodetector 24 after passing through a detector lens 22 and a cylindrical lens 23. In this case, the direction of the edge of the shielder 21 that shields the light is perpendicular to the track direction F. Two different focuses B and A are caused in the direction perpendicular to the axial direction of the lens 23. Accordingly, a spot shown by a dotted line is caused, and the focusing shift and the tracking shift are detected by detection signals (a+b)-(c+d) and (a+d)-(b+c) of detectors 24aW24d, respectively. Thus these detectors can be distributed on the same plane.
