Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid level detecting sensor of less light transmission losses by aligning the plural end parts of optical fibers having cores and clads, sticking these by fusion under heating to a tapered shape, and further reheating the tapered part thereby forming the end parts to a spherical shape. CONSTITUTION:End parts of two pieces of optical fibers 3 consisting of cores 7 and clads 8 covering these are aligned and arranged in the same direction. The respective end parts are heated to be stuck by fusion into one body as a tapered part 9. Further, the tapered part 9 is heated to form a spherical part 5 by the surface tension of glass. If the optical fibers for liquid level detection are constituted in this way, the optical fibers of less optical transmission losses are formed without forming air bubbles in the part 5.
