Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate the restarting of an engine and improve fuel efficiency, by providing a heat-insulated cooling liquid temperature retaining tank in a required position in a cooling liquid circulation passage and by utilizing cooling liquid of relatively high temperature, which has been stored in the tank, to restart the engine after stoppage. CONSTITUTION:During the ordinary operation of an engine 1, cooling liquid 3 absorbs the heat of the engine 1 through a water jacket 2 and is then conducted to a radiator 4 through a cooling liquid temperature retaining tank 11 coated with a heat insulator 12 and through a thermostat 7 and is thereafter returned to the water jacket 2 by a water pump 6. When the cooling liquid 3 makes a round at the restarting of the engine 1 after stoppage, the liquid 3 is cooled by the engine. For that reason, the thermostat 7 which acts in response to the prescribed temperature of the tank 11 shuts off a circulation passage 5 to the radiator 4 so that the cooling liquid 3 of relatively high temperature in the tank 11 is conducted to the water jacket 2 through a by-pass 8 and the heat of the liquid 3 is transferred to the engine 1 to accelerate its warming-up.
