Abstract

PURPOSE: In carbonylating a styrene oxidatively in the presence of an aliphatic alcohol, to obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for perufme in high reaction rate in high yield, by adding palladium, halogenic acid salt or amine, and a dehydrating agent to the reaction system.
CONSTITUTION: In the presence of palladium, halogenic acid salt of amine, and dehydrating agent, a styrene shown by the formula I (R1 is H, halogen, 1W4C alkyl, or 1W4C alkoxy; R2 is H or 1W6C alkyl) is reacted with 1W4C aliphatic alcohol, carbon monoxide, and oxygen, preferably at 50W150°C, to give a cinnamic ester shown by the formula II (R3 is 1W4C alkyl). The halogenic acid salt of the amine has effects on rise in reaction rate and improvement of the selectivity of the desired reaction product, and for example, halogenic acid salt of primary, secondary, and tertiary amines and ammonia, especially hydrochloric acid salt or hydrobromic acid salt is preferable at the halogenic acid salt of the amine.
