Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having enhanced surface properties and increased maximum residual magnetic flux density, by coating a specific binder containing a polyvinyl chloride copolymer, the urethane resin (or polyester resin) and polyisocyanate on a supporter. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic coating material is obtained by dispersing the magnetic powder (like gamma-Fe2O3) to a binder containing (A) a polyvinyl chloride (>=1 kinds of polyvinyl-polyvinyl acetate-vinyl alcohol copolymer of <=350 polymerization degree, polyvinyl chloride-polyvinyl acetate-maleic acid copolymer of <=300 polymerization degree, and polyvinyl chloride-vinylidene chloride-maleic acid copolymer of <=350 polymerization degree), (B) >=1 kinds of urethane resin of 5,000-20,000 molecular weight and polyester resin of 500-2,500 molecular weriht, and (C) 5-30wt% polyisocyanate compound based on the whole quantity of resin. This magnetic coating material is coated on a supporter.
