Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the efficiency of permeation in a hollow yarn type osmosis device by using crimped hollow yarn of a snaking shape thereby generating turbulent flow to the flow in the hollow yarn.
CONSTITUTION: Hollow yarn of 50W1,000μ bores and 2W200μ wall thicknesses is made into crimped hollow yarn of 0.5W50mm crimping wavelengths L and 0.05W3mm crimping heights H. The crimped hollow yarn can be produced in the same way as for crimped yarn, for which permeating materials such as cellulose acetate, regenerated cellulose, polymethyl methacrylate, PP, polysulfone or the like are usable. If such crimped hollow yarn of a snaking shape is used in lieu of linear hollow yarn, the liquid flowing in the hollow yarn flows zigzag and therefore it generates turbulent flow, thereby decreasing the tendency for formation of the boundary layers on the inside surfaces of the hollow yarn and improving the efficiency of permeation.
