Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform good responsive feedback control, in air-fuel ratio control of an internal combustion engine, by measuring flame light in a cylinder through plural light sensing diodes and calculating air-fuel ratio from spectral sensitivity characteristics. CONSTITUTION:Flames in a cylinder are colored yellow for a large proportion of fuel, blue for logical air-fuel ratio and blue white for a small proportion. Then a light sensing diode 9, high sensitive for red color, and light sensing diode 10, high sensitive for blue color, are embedded to a spark plug, and flames are directly detected through heat resistant glass, arithmetically operated with their difference in an amplifier 13 through operational amplifiers 11, 12, further linearized by an amplifier 14 to obtain an air-fuel ratio signal. This signal is input to a correction calculator circuit of microcomputer, and its output changes duty ratio of a solenoid valve. In this way, feedback control can be operated promptly after a start with an earlier response than an 02 sensor.
