Abstract

PURPOSE: A green emitting fluorescent substance useful for a cathode ray tube for color television, exhibiting an emission with high luminance, obtained by adding a specific amount of zinc to a fluorescent substance of oxysulfide of a rare earth element activated with terbium and dysprosium, shown by a specific formula.
CONSTITUTION: A raw material mixture (e.g., a mixture of yttrium oxide, terbium oxide, dysprosium oxide, sulfur, sodium carbonate) of a fluorescent substance of oxysulfide of a rare earth element activated with terbium and dysprosium, shown by the formula (Ln is Y, Gd, La, or Lu; 0.001≤p≤0.1, 0.00005≤q≤ 0.02) is blended with ≤14,000ppm (preferably 300W14,000ppm) zinc as a zinc compound (e.g., zinc sulfide, zinc oxide, etc.), to give the desired fluorescent substance containing ≤40ppm (preferably 10W40ppm).
