Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect a fault point in an easy and accurate way, by deciding the distance to the fault point from the delay time of a variable delay pseudo signal that has the maximum correlation with the pseudo signal reflected from the fault point. CONSTITUTION:The pseudo noise signal sent from a pseudo noise signal generating circuit 2 of an end office 1-1 is transmitted through submarine coaxial cables 10-1- connected via repeaters 11-1- and reflected at a fault point 12. This reflected pseudo noise signal is applied to a correlator 7 of the office 1-1, and the delay time of a variable delay unit 4 is selected so that the correlation becomes maximum with the delayed pseudo noise signal which passed through the unit 4. Then the delay time corresponding to the distance up to the fault point measured. Thus the fault point is detected in an easy and accurate way for a submarine coaxial repeating system.
