PURPOSE:To obtain a decorative article, useful as wallpaper or the like, having large ruggedness step differences and a three-dimensional effect, by coating a foaming agent- contng. layer formed as a pattern on a substrate with a foaming layer having a decomposition point higher than that of the foaming agent, and preheating and then heating these layers to swell the surface layer by the expansion of the under layer. CONSTITUTION:Foaming agent-contng. synthetic resin paint 2' is applied as a printed pattern to the surface of a substrate 1 by a rotary-screen applicator 5, and passed through a drying oven 6 to obtain the first foaming layer 2. Thereafter, foaming agent-contng. synthetic resin paint 3' having a decomposition point higher than that of the former foaming agent is applied to the surface by a coater 7, and passed through a drying oven 8 to obtain the second foaming layer 3. In addition, coloring ink is optionally transfered to the surface by a printer. The treatd sheet is passed through a preheater 10 at a temperature lower than the decomposition point of the foaming agent, formed into a rugged state by an emboss roll 11, and then foamed in a foaming oven 12 so that the surface layer under the condition that the second foaming layer still has adhesivness is swollen at the hollow core parts 4 which are the vestiges of the expansion of the first foaming layer. The treated sheet is then passed through a cooler 13 to obtain an objective article.
