CONSTITUTION:When the start button is pressed down, an AE signal control device 18 changes over a signal change-over unit 20 by means of signal to a pre- amplifier 5b side and at the same time sets up the frequency range of a band pass filter change-over unit 21 at a width (10kHz-1MHz) that is suitable for signal processing of an AE signal for sensing contact. When contact of the tool with a work is sensed by the signal from the AE sensor 17, the signal change- over units 20 and 27 are changed-over and at the same time a band-pass filter change-over unit 21 is also changed over and the frequency is changed to the frequency range (100kHz-1MHz) for sensing a defect in the tool, and it is sensed by the signal from the AE sensor 4.
