Abstract

PURPOSE:To use a small-size antenna of <=0.5lambda/theta aperture length to perform a high-resolution observation, by taking out only data corresponding to the observation width of a range narrower than the beam radiation width and processing the signal. CONSTITUTION:The radar pulse signal from a transmitter 11 is radiated to a part to be observed such as a ground surface E with a radiation width A through a circulator 12 and the first antenna 13. The antenna 13 has a unidirectional pattern and has <=0.5lambda/theta aperture length L (lambda is the wavelength of radio waves, and theta is the coverage angle of observation width B from the antenna). Reflected wave of a radio wave radiated from the antenna 13 is detected through the circulator 12 by a receiver 14. The signal of a part corresponding to the observation width B in the detection signal is taken out in a gate circuit 15 by a sampling pulse having a time width corresponding to the observation width B from a timing circuit 16. This signal is supplied to a data recorder 20 or a data transmitter 21 through an A/D converter 17, a data speed converter 18, and a switch 19.
