Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the fail-safe performance for a station wagon with a van body or the like in a level control device for controlling the level of the vehicle by comparing a detected level with a reference level by setting five vehicle height levels and designating the running, and loading and unloading refenence level to the second and the fourth levels. CONSTITUTION:The second level of five vehicle height levels from the lowest is used as a loadong and uloadong reference level in meter, and the fourth level is designated as a running reference level in meter, and the fourth level is designated as a running reference level in M to maintain the relation listed in Table 1. Four detectors S1-S4 are used. Thus, detecting means 13 can identify two states. A probability that more than two of the detectors S1-S4 become defective and that one of two states becomes impossible to produce an output is so small as can be ignored as compared with a probability that the other becomes impossible to produce an output. Accordingly, the detectors S1-S4 can detect the height of the actual vehicle with high probability, can compare by a circuit 19 together with the reference height level 15, and the height level is controlled via a circuit 20. In this manner, the fail-safe performance can be improved.
