Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate discomfort of knocking without greatly lowering the engine performance, by first delaying the ignition timing in accordance with the amplitude of knocking and then gradually advancing the timing. CONSTITUTION:A knock sensor detects engine vibration and a knock-voltage converter generates an appropriate voltage in proportion to knocking. This voltage is applied to a delay signal generator which generates an ignition delaying signal within a range of about 2-20 deg. in accordance with knocking, and this signal is applied to an ignition control circuit. This circuit controls the primary current in an ignition coil with a reference ignition timing signal and the delay signal, and then advances each delayed ignition timing at a rate of 0.1-0.3 deg. per ignition period.
