Abstract
PURPOSE: The titled composition useful as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic agent, capable of accelerating the absorption through a digestive tract and suppressing the side effect, and comprising mefenamic acid, specific amounts of sorbitan fatty acid ester of polyoxyethylene and sucrose ester of a fatty acid.
CONSTITUTION: Mefenamic acid (fine powder of particle size ≤74μ) is incorporated with sorbitan fatty acid ester of polyoxyethylene, e.g. lauric or oleic acid having an HLB of 8W15, and sucrose ester of a fatty acid, e.g. palmitic, stearic or lauric acid having an HLB of 5W14, to give a composition. The mixing weight ratio of the mefenamic acid to the esters of the fatty acid is preferably 1:0.4W1:0.7. The two types of fatty acid esters will not reduce the drug action even in the case of the mefenamic acid in an amount 1/2 the conventional one. Thus, the dose can be reduced to suppress side effects, e.g. gastroenteric trouble.
