Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a lead alloy for lead accumulator grating that causes little cracks by a method wherein a lead wire into which sulfur, selenium, or tellurium is preliminarily embedded is added into a molten alloy lead for melting.
CONSTITUTION: Sulfur, selenium, or tellurium is extruded from a die at a temperature close to its melting point so that a lead wire containing it is produced. A low- antimony lead alloy containing about 2W3% of antinmony is charged in a closed type melting oven, is heated, and kept at a temperature a little higher than about 310°C. As an example, a lead wire embedded with sulfur of specified amount is added into the oven, the oven is closed, the pressure is raised to about 500 atmospheres to prevent sulfur from sublimation. Thereafter, the temperature is raised to finally reach about 420W450°C. The obtained lead alloy contains about 2W2.5 times of sulphur and develops a large effect in preventing so-called scorch.
