Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively utilize the heat of high temperature gas to be generated by a method wherein a thermally decomposed gas produced by the thermal decomposition of the waste within a vertical retort is burnt, within a separately equipped partial combustion chamber, to decompose undecomposed organic material utilizing the heat of combustion to heat the retort.
CONSTITUTION: The waste 14 is continuously thermally decomposed within the retort 16. The thermally decomposed gas 22 generated within the retort 16 at that time, is led from the lower part of the retort 16 through a conduit 26 into the partial combustion and heating chamber 24 and, being mixed with the air introduced from an air piping 30, used to burn and decompose combustible organic material containing within the gas into a partial combustion thermally decomposed gas 31 to be led through a gas piping 32 and an air preheater 28 to a gas purifying tower 52. At the time, the high temperature gas produced within the partial combustion and heating chamber 24 heats the retort 16 from outside. According to the method described above, the thermally decomposed gas is burnt partially to completely decompose the organic material to be able to utilize its heat to heat the retort and to preheat the combustion air.
