Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by the formula I [R is H, lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, lower alkynyl, etc.; A is a group shown by the formula II or III, B is lower alkylene; X is halogen; carbon carbon bond at 3- and 4-position of carbostyril skeleton is single or double bond; with the proviso that when R is H, A is the formula shown by the formula II, and the carbon carbon bond of 3- and 4-position of carbostyril skeleton, B not a group shown by the formula IV (R1 is H or lower alkyl)].
EXAMPLE: 6-(4-Chloro-1-oxobutyl)-3,4-dihydrocarbostyril.
USE: An intermediate for synthesizing a carbostyril derivative useful as a central nervous system depressant and antihistamic agent.
PROCESS: For example, a compound shown by the formula V is reacted with a compound shown by the formula X-B-COX' (X is X) or formula (X-B-CO2)2O in a solvent in the presence of a Lewis acid to give a compound shown by the formula I wherein A is a group shown by the formula II.
