Abstract
PURPOSE: To increase the crosslinking rate of the titled compsn. and to make electron beam crosslinking of thick-walled articles possible, by a method wherein electrically conductive carbon black is blended with an electron beam crosslinkable polymer to reduce specific volume resistivity to a specified valuer or lower.
CONSTITUTION: An appropriate amount of electrically conductive carbon black is blended with an electron beam crosslinkable polymer such as a rubber or a plstic, in which crosslinking reaction preferential proceeds by electron beam irradiation, to reduce its specific volume resistivity to 107Ω.cm or lower. As compared with conventional compsn., the crosslink density of the above polymer compsn. becomes 2W3 times as high as that of the conventional compsn. under conventional electron beam irradiation conditions, and electron beam-penetrating power of the above polymer compsn. becomes greater. Thus, even articles having a thickness of 2W3mm can easily be crosslinked.
