Abstract

PURPOSE: A tribo-luminous substance, consisting of a crystalline picolinic acid salt containing a rare earth element consisting of picolinic acid radical and europium and terbium, and capable of exhibiting sufficient emission at room temperature, stable thermally, chemically and physically, and mass-producible readily.
CONSTITUTION: A salt of picolinic acid, e.g. alkali metallic salt or ammonium salt, is subjected to the ion exchange with a salt of europium or terbium, e.g. water-soluble or alcohol-soluble salt, and the reaction solution is concentrated to give a tribo-luminous substance consisting of a crystalline picolinic acid salt containing a rare earth element, preferably pH 3.5W7. The luminous substance is then provided on a substrate, e.g. a metal or plastic, to give a tribo-luminous element material.
EFFECT: Multicolor display due to the mixing of the three primary colors by the use of mechanical stimulus including the friction is possible.
USE: A pressure display apparatus, a pressure detecting sensor, etc.
